MotoGP™, WSB and BSB magazine editor

Client: BBC Magazines, Immediate Media

Work: I was commissioned by Immediate Media to be editor of a BBC title on Motorcycle racing. The brief was to create a brand new magazine to back the BBC's coverage of MotoGP across an entire season of racing, as well as reporting on World Superbikes and British Superbikes.

As Editor, I created a team to write and produce the magazine, as well as writing monthly articles myself. Sourcing talent from the BBC and Sky's TV commentary teams, I secured an interview with Valentino Rossi, who went on to become World Champion.

Working closely with the Publisher to develop flatplans, sourcing imagery and creating content, I helped paint a complete picture of the season, on a tight budget. I persuaded well-known commentators to lend their voice and contribute cutting-edge articles. I sent the entire bookazine to print the day after the final race of the season.

Sold successfully at a high price point in key newsstand locations, it allowed the BBC to create a rivalry with MCN, the main player in the market.

Seeing the tangible printed edition of a magazine you’ve edited or contributed to still gives a peculiar thrill. I’ve worked on magazines for a range of companies and industries, using my skills as a journalist and editor to research and write content for numerous different audiences.
